With second edition for Age of Sigmar now almost upon us, and since I totally have nothing else to do right now *coughSHOterrainplanningbookingsetccough* I figured it was a good time to check out the Daughters of Khaine and look at seriously dabbling in Age of Sigmar.
It should come as no suprise to any reader of ours that the Daughters of Khaine are my first pick for Age of Sigmar. Elves – Check
Dynamic sculpts – Check
CQC style play – Check
Yep, the gangs all here for the way I like to play. But where do I actually start?
A while ago i got my hands on a Blood Coven box from games workshop with the express intent on using them to create plastic howling banshees for my Eldar… or maybe kit bashing them as harlequins… or wyches for my Drukhari…. see a pattern? Then it hit me – why not just start working on them as an Age of Sigmar force! Then 2.0 was announced… so I waited to make sure the Battle Tome was still compatible and HUZZAH it is!
On to the planning it is then!
The first port of call was picking a theme for the army – which meant some reading. I really liked the idea of ‘The Kraith’ in terms of background and opportunities to model and paint. Blood thirsty and vicious, the Kraith worship Khaine on the battlefield, not the altar. They also like to daub themselves in the blood of their foes – which could be really interesting hobby wise to get just right. The crimson and burgundy (or even the pinkish tone from the art) also would look very striking with the right base style.
Without knowing much at all about the rules – the decision is made.
After checking out the special rules, the Kraith seem pretty solid, able to sometimes fight again and a cool poison weapon relic for mortal wounds. I could be talking garbage because I am still working through the rules but right now – they seem pretty good. They also favour the Cauldron Guard Battalion warscroll – which after checking that out, seems like a ‘me’ kind of thing…
Ok, theme picked, starting force picked… whats next? Models!
I’m pretty fortunate that I already have the beginnings of this warscroll in hand – and the models I need to add I really like – the Lifetakers look so good!!
Of course a cauldron of blood is a must as well – but again, the fact I get to use this big guy in the army means me adding it should not be surprising either!
So – while I am working on my next 40k project (you can vote HERE as to what that is) – I am also going to add in some time to devote at the feet of Khaine!
Feel free to share your suggestions about the Daughters and what I MUST have in the army!
