Well at least the poor decisions I have made will mean my Harlequins finally get painted!
As you might already know, I love my harlequins and when the codex dropped I had to have it (and a bunch of the fantastic new plastic kits. Like many hobbyists these days, something else got in the way and a year on I am now finally getting stick in and painting them.
Why now? I have an event in less than 2 weeks!
Should I have taken my own Advice? Absolutely! That said, sometimes you do what you gotta do!
I am going to come out and say its getting harder to crunch paint models – staying up late and getting up early sucked when I was doing it in my mid 20’s. Doing it in my now (gulp!) late 30’s is likely to send me round the twist!
So what’s the list I am dealing with? 1500 points of Ninja Space Elf Clowns!
PRIMARY DETACHMENT: Eldar Harlequins
DETACHMENT: Cegorach’s Revenge Formation
TROOP1: Troupe with (3 additional players, 2 Harlequins caress, 5 Harlequins kiss) – 181pts
TROOP2: Troupe with (3 additional players, 2 Harlequins caress, 5 Harlequins kiss) – 181pts
TROOP3: Troupe with (3 additional players, 5 Harlequins kiss, Power Sword, haywire grenades) – 185pts
FA1: Sky Weaver Jet Bikes with (2 Zephyr Glaives, 2 haywire cannons) – 130pts
FA2: Sky Weaver Jet Bikes with (2 Zephyr Glaives, 2 haywire cannons) – 130pts
HVY1: Voidweaver with (Prismatic Cannon) – 80 pts
EL1: Death Jester – 60pts
EL2: Death Jester – 60pts
EL3: Death Jester – 60pts
EL4: Solitaire – 145pts
EL5: Shadow Seer with (level 2 psychic, haywire grenades, Mask of Secrets) – 105pts WARLORD
EL6: Shadow Seer with (level 2 psychic, haywire grenades) – 90pts
EL7: Shadow Seer with (level 2 psychic, haywire grenades) – 90pts
ARMY TOTAL: 1497 pts
Pretty much the minimums for the formation!
As you might remember HERE and HERE I have been throwing the idea around about running a vehicle heavy army for a while now. So why did I not do it here? 2 things really – time and money. Getting the list painted would be challenging as it is – stacking up multiple bikes and skimmers would simply compound the problem! Cost is also a factor – these kits are not cheap (not that that’s news though right!)
The list above gets most of the models done and lets me test the full masque as GW intended.
A couple of points of note about the list…
First up, I have a shadow seer as the warlord. Why? I miss out on the all the cool traits this way! In my mind this is a non issue. By narrowing down the results to a D3 roll I have a much better chance of getting the right trait and can plan as such. Second, the charts all seem to have a cool one, an average one and a below par one. Combined with their somewhat dubious usefulness depending on the opponent – I figured I would go with consistent results.
Second – the troupe load outs. The 3rd troupe is a 4th edition metal unit – it is what it is. The other 2 units are much more like what I think will be the most useful load out. Its flexible, engages multiple targets well and has enough bodies to make it to combat. Honestly I would love to run these maxed out with 12 models but points stops me for this event… but only to add more bare players to the units. 7 with combat weapons have been more than adequate in every game I have used them in so far.
This is most of my to do list – 2 troupes, 2 shadow seers and 4 bikes.
My now finished trio of death jesters and the void weaver. 2 of them are kit bash models and I am kinda pleased with the results!
I am onto the shadow seers (hope to knock them off tonight) and the light troupe has been hit with yellow spray in prep for their brighter colour scheme. I even masked off the first unit of bikes for spraying!
So while I feel inspired I will leave the post here – I got ninja clowns to paint!
