Episode 18: Simple Hammer
Simple Hammer was a name given to teaching youngsters to play 40k by a close friend of mine, Brett – many years ago now and it’s something that’s always stuck with me… just how do we ensure the next generation of tabletop and board gamers follows in our footsteps? This episode sees Mike and Emma explore the gaming landscape for the younger generation off the back of the Warhammer Adventures series of books announced by Games Workshop.
We discuss the official announcement for Warhammer Adventures and just what it might mean to the future of tabletop gaming with Games workshop as well as the positives the series might bring to the community. We look at different board games that we have had success with as a family with kids and discuss just how old is old enough when it comes to the more complex bog box games and the leap to tabletop gaming.
We also touch on the wider benefits of board and tabletop gaming from a parents perspective – why is it a good thing for them to be sat at a table playing games? What benefits can be had for your youngsters, education wise, which would see you encouraging them to play these games we all enjoy?
Do you regularly play board or tabletop games with your kids? Which games have been the most enjoyable for you? Which ones have been a letdown? Just how were your kids when you broke out your favourite big box or rolled your first to hit rolls in a tabletop game against them? Have you tried simple hammer?
