Episode 62: Format Overload
When it comes time to work out what you and your opponent are playing, Format Overload can be inevitable! With so many games available to play these days you would think its easy – its really not and some games actually make it harder! ITC, ETC, WTC, BRB – all the acronyms could make you go crazy! Then again you are listening to us so maybe that’s ok!
We chat about some of the hang ups gamers have around their preferred way of playing their favourite game(s) be it in their garage, at their local store or at an event. With no right or wrong answer you can image how this conversation will go!
It’s another interesting rabbit hole for this episode, with it quickly becoming apparent that gamer bias, the resistance to change and – surprisingly – some potentially cultural defining features all play a part in deciding which format players prefer and shun. As organisers we also play a part in guiding the community and its something we are always aware of and try to do fairly.
What’s your preferred style of play? Narrative or Matched? Do you attend events based on what the style of event is or are you happy enough to just get out and roll the dice and have a laugh? We would love to hear about your experiences and hear your feedback on this topic – we want to hear from you!
