Episode 87: Moneyball (for gamers)
With so many new releases for pretty much every game system it can be hard to work out what is worth your time investment hobby wise and game wise, so in this episode we try and explain how you can look at things differently and get the most from units that the internet turns it back on – Moneyball style.
Sometimes the loudest voice can become the truth and to really excel on the table sometimes you must take risks, be willing to murder your darlings and be pragmatic in your approach. If your goal is victory, discounting options simply because the internet says you should is a dangerous path and can often limit your growth as a player. You can check out Mikes (now out of date) article on the Craftworld Falcon Gravtank HERE.
There is plenty of new stuff as well – Maelstrom of War for Warhammer 40,000 has been sighted in a Beta form in a coming white dwarf (mike is excited for this to be sure!) and we have no less than 3 new box games incoming. These games look a lot like those you find in a more mainstream store and could be a great way to introduce people to the game without info overload. We also got a trailer for the new Total War Warhammer 3 game which is stunning to behold. Lastly, check out humble bundle for a bunch of black library books at a super low price!
While Western Australia is all but returned to normal, we want to make sure you are all looking after yourselves during this trying quarantine period – if you need help from more than your present support network (and are in Western Australia) you can contact Beyond Blue (1300 22 46 36), Life line (131 114) or Crisis Care (089223 1111). If you are outside of Western Australia we really encourage you checking out your local provider of mental health via your preferred search engine.
Have you taken units that have been undervalued before and made them work? What did you use to make the call to try them and how did you evaluate them post game(s)? Do you love the movie Moneyball as much as Mike? We would love to hear about your experiences and hear your feedback on this – we want to hear from you!
