After over a year of building and painting my Mars Pattern Warhound, it’s ready for battle!
The Mars Pattern Warhound
I’ve had my Warhound (#3613) for just over two years and I’ve been building and painting it for over a year. I’d built one previously for a commission so the second one (my one) was a lot easier, especially seeing as the instructions are terrible. It takes a lot of time and patience to get the pose just right, but it’s worth the effort, in fact that’s one thing I can’t recommend enough – dry fit and test every join thoroughly before pinning and gluing. I do love this kit, even though it’s starting to show it’s age in some of the casts. In fact, I’d like to get another at some point in the future…maybe after I get a Mechanicum Ordinatus Ulator…
A Baptism of Fire – A lead up to an Apocalyptic game
Well, hopefully the Objective Secured team (with special guests) will be having an Apocalypse size game later in the year, so it should get a good run out then. Fingers crossed of course seeing as the opposition at this stage have at least three Eldar Revenant titans and a single Phantom titan! I’ll be running it with double Turbo Laser Destructors in the vain hope that we can kill a titan (or two) quickly, although I’m not too confident that it’ll survive more than a turn.
We’ve tentatively agreed to 10000pts per side, but knowing the collections of the four players we could easily fill out that amount EACH! The current set up is Imperial Guard Vs Eldar, but I’m tempted to take along my 30k Mechanicum seeing as it’s currently filled out to about 4000pts – 5000pts. Although, I’m keen to break out my Imperial Guard as they’ve had a quiet year…
What next?
As aforementioned, my Mechanicum are really filling out nicely and getting close to 5000pts. I’ve currently got x2 Domitar Battle-Automata, x6 Ursarax and a Thanatar Siege-Automata left to finish painting. Along with a few other bits here and there to finish (and I’ll be getting a Volterax too when it’s released) I’m starting to look towards my next army and Massaen has challenged me…
The challenge is basically two-part – 1, build an army which is out of my normal comfort zone – 2, Paint the army to be clean with no battle damage!
So, I’m thinking along the lines of building a Thousand Sons Heresy army with a glossy red finished armour. And seeing as we’re about to get the new Burning of Prospero box set with Mk3 marines, it looks to be the perfect starting point for a new army for the new year. I just need to wait until Forgeworld drop book seven in the Horus Heresy series (Inferno, hopefully in November) which will give us rules for the XVth Legion and some new Rites of War.
Until then, I’m going to have to find an easy(ish) paint scheme that’s clean and really impressive and works on both infantry and vehicles, shouldn’t be too hard…right?!
I’ve never done a heretic army before, I’m normally a loyalist to the core! So even though they’re not truly Traitor, that’s how I’m going to build them.
