Inquisitor Mikey and the Astrasomethingorother….

Imperial Guard is not a pair of Dirty Words!

A guest post from Inquisitor Mikey…

Greetings one and all!

I feel I should establish my cred, and give some context, first. I have been playing 40k since… 1990? Ish? I bought the first Leman Russ as it was released with Metal Imperial Guard Catachans. Good time, good times.

I have had, sold, re-purchased and resold so many armies I have lost track. I have had Catachans, Cadians, Mordians, and my most sorrowful failing ever, Praetorians. And that’s just the Imperial Guard (sorry, Astra whatschamacallit). On top of that I have had Orks, Dark Angels, Space Wolves, Orks again, more Space Wolves, Chaos Marines, Khorne Daemonkin, more Chaos marines (although this is still ongoing… I’m waiting for my Traitor Legions codex). I play… well, collect… a lot of different systems and games, but I keep coming back to 40k, and more specifically the Imperial Guard. Ahem. The Astra Milikaflufulfluf. Bah, The Imperial Guard.

Imperial Guard

Anybody who is considering reading these discussions to attain some genius tactical insight, or to glean some special winning strategy… You should probably leave now. Save you the time. I am the epitome of a ‘hobby’ gamer…. Not due to my actual ability to hobby, but more for my approach to the game, and life.

I have always been enthralled by the story. The heroes, the narratives, the twists and turns of the stories. To that end, I present the beginnings of an Inquisitorial Guard army. And my process of collecting it. To be clear, I have most of the parts to it. Just none of the actual assembled and finished models. I am unsure of the eventual list, the finished colour scheme, or even how many points will actually go into it. I currently have an idea. A glorious, narrative, thematic idea.

My first step in creating this army is the idea, so let me expand on this. I love the Inquisition, the idea of the rogue traders and meddling with xenos. I originally toyed with the idea of adding a terminator armour equipped Inquisitor to an Ork army, as a counts as Nob. Then I realised how much work was involved in painting an entire Ork army.

And then it released. Codex Inquisition. It was glorious. Ideas of different squads and groups took over my thinking. I worked out how to build an Inquisition component to my IG army. But it never really came together. Every time I would feel inspired, I would realise I needed 3 or 4 codex’s to actually build the army I wanted. And the points would be eaten up trying to create this list of everything. CAD’s, allied contigents, trying to understand the whole formation thing (I still haven’t really got that…).

And then the final ingredient came about. Only a few weeks ago now. And so it was decided.

Codex Imperial agents. As an adjunct to Codex Astra Imperial Guard.

Oh yes.

And so I find myself on the precipice. I have the codex (Codexes? Codicii?) ready. I have the idea. I have a rag tag collection of minis. And I have ideas. So many ideas.

I find myself at this time questioning why I am writing this. What I hope to achieve by blogging/plogging/whateverlogging the process. I think I have always been an ideas person. I am often swept away with the big sweeping movements of coolness. I think if I can solidify what I am doing I am more likely to attach some structure. Some purpose. Some actual HEADWAY!

My ambition is to fortnightly update where I am. It could be as simple as “I finally assembled this stuff”, or “here is my list”, or even just “this mini is sooooo cool!!!”.

Feel free to ride along with me, or comment on what it is that eternally drives your hobby onward.

Inquisitor Mikey.

Innocence proves nothing. With great Power comes great Power. Responsibility? The Emperor absolves me of any responsibility other than to achieve my aims. Extreme Prejudice is my first option. The Emperor protects.

    1. My thoughts exactly!! The idea of this random nutjob pulling whatever he/she feels like out of all the other bits of the Imperium to pursue some endgame that no-one understands…

      Love it.
