This post is probably a day or so behind where I was hoping, but that’s because its been very busy in my world….
Masters 2015 is now under 3 months away and the stress is building – 35 tables of terrain is a lot for any organiser – even more so for me since we have never had an event that size! I am fortunate to have more than a few resources to draw on though.
The first is a club that is very dear to me…
Its perhaps one of the most well known and longest running gaming clubs in WA. I was chair person for the committee for a time and opened one if the branches of the club in years gone by. I still venture down to the club whenever I can. They have some 20 odd tables worth of terrain I will be borrowing for masters and I could not be more grateful to the team now running things. I visited them just this week and saw a few games under way…
One of the main reasons for my visit (despite not organising a game or even bringing an army with me) was to deliver a group order of FAT Mats from front line gaming…
This is what greeted me when I got home Tuesday afternoon… We ordered some 60 odd mats collectively and I was super excited to get them out to the guys! If you have not seen these mats – you should definitely try to – they are so very cool! Great artwork, fantastic finish and more varieties than you could ever need! I got 5 for myself… A big thanks to Nick, Reece, Frankie and the team at Frontline for helping organise this for us!
I was also fortunate to have the team at Frontline come on as sponsors for the Masters 2015 event and give me a couple of mats to give out at prizes on the weekend!
While I am speaking of sponsors, I will give a quick shout out to 2 more how have come on for us this year.
Secret Weapon Miniatures is the first – I got their care package today. I have to say the weathering pigments are great and the Shot Glasses are great talking points as well!
Kromlech are the second – Maciej and the team have been very gracious and provided some very cool items for us to give away – especially for any of you who plays Orks! They conversion parts are top notch and definitely worth a look.
I will be doing a ‘Sponsors Spotlight’ in the coming weeks featuring links and images to the products I get so keep an eye out for them.
Getting back to the team at Outpost – I wanted to share a fantastic table built by one of the members – *a gamer by the name of Ken – A home made Zone Mortalis!
The table is made of 1×1 foot squares of MDF board, with a metal fly screen glued down on top. The table is then sprayed and dry brushed as required. The edging is a hazard tape to keep it neat and looks fantastic I think you will agree!
The walls are all loose so you can really customise the board every game – more so that the Forge World version! The Doors and pipes are also removable and really add to the feel of the board. It took around 9 months to complete – but I think the results are more than worth the effort! In the pics we have Eldar facing off against the Legion of Imperial Fists. Its this sort of hobby effort that really inspires me – I can’t wait to get a game on that table!
On my own front – I managed to get some scatter terrain done (around the home renovations, studio building and family life)
I managed 9 of the tank traps and 4 of the crate piles. They come from another game system – Dust Tactics I think – and were quick and easy to do. I started on my crashed aquilla from a few years back today so you might see pics of it shortly as well.
I know this post has been a bit all over the show and things should settle down in the next few days – once the studio is finished and I have a proper gaming space back – well… there are some cool new things that are going to start appearing on the blog! stay tuned!
*Edit – Ken was kind enough to get in touch about the Zone Mortalis Board – I had a complete mental blank when I wrote the original article – thanks again mate! Hoping we can get a game in on the table in the next week or 2!
