While I hoped to get this posted late yesterday, events conspired to ensure it was early today this got finished… and its my sons birthday as well so its taken a while to get to actually posting it.
The finished kit? Dragonfate Dais!
Cheaper than the realm gates I showed you yesterday here in OZ (but not by much!) its an interesting kit to work with.
After building the gates I decided I would dry run the kit by following the instructions but quickly decided that I would assemble it my own way. Base plus stairs and the platform separate – then combine once the glue was set. In hind sight I wish I had painted the 2 parts separate as the base has a cool bubbling liquid pond effect you could do up as pretty much any weird liquid and colour you like.
While not the greatest pic – its washed out by the setting sun outside – you should get the idea. I went with a nice pool of blood for the base and I am very pleased with the finish. I also got to try the new GW gold paints they released for Age of Sigmar and was very happy with them and the effect I got. I used a few of the technical paints as well to really add some depth to the model around the gold areas with oxidation effects and grime primarily. The flames on the dragons were painted to match the gates I did yesterday to make them more magic fire. This kit also got an extra level of dry brush to really accentuate the textures on the base piece and stairs.
Moving onto some more 40k specific terrain now – its already been sprayed red… lets see how long it takes to finish!
