Objective Secured visits Warhammer World!
After an hastily arranged trip to the UK recently, me and a good friend Genghiz got to make a pilgrimage to the home of Games Workshop in Nottingham. Tucked away on a small industrial estate Warhammer World is just a small part of the massive complex that makes up GW’s base of operations. Warhammer World was recently renovated and now has three full time exhibition halls, a standard GW store and the world’s only dedicated Forge World and Black Library stores. Also in the complex is the rather excellent Bugman’s Bar where you can take a rest from all the action and have a beer and some pretty good food! Here’s what happened over the course of 6 hours…
Warhammer World – Exhibition Hall 1 – Age of Sigmar
The newest exhibition at Warhammer World recently opened and although we don’t really focus too much on Age of Sigmar I’ll admit that the displays they’ve built here are awesome! I’ll let the pictures do the talking.
Warhammer World – Exhibition Hall 2 & 3 – Warhammer 40k & Horus Heresy
Now here’s what we came for, the room is filled with all the classics! Plus a few newbies. And if you look carefully they’ve also updated The Fang to include some of the new Space Wolves figures into the display.
Warhammer World – The Battle For Angelus Prime
Now this is a truly insanely awesome display! You can’t really put into words how amazing this is, you HAVE to go and see it for yourself. It depicts An’ggrath the Unbound’s assault upon the Ultramarines shrine world of Sanctoria. Marneus Calgar battles An’ggrath at the highest point of the display as the Ultramarines, Titan Legions, Knightly Households and the Grey Knights fight off a massive Daemon invasion force.
Some facts on the display:
- 9 Months to complete by a team of 10 modellers
- The scene contains over 1200 assorted Warhammer 40k scenery kits
- It contains over 5500 GW and Forge World minatures
- 22ft Long, 12ft wide and almost 20ft tall
And, from what me a friend who came with me counted, only approximately 10 wrecked Ultramarines vehicles…
Warhammer World – The Gaming Hall
Also available is massive Gaming Hall filled with gaming tables suitable for every type of game you could think of. Want to head down with a game of Apocalypse or Zone Mortalis, no worries! I’d highly recommend booking a table though, it’s very busy on the weekends.
And after all that time wondering around the displays, drinking beer and enjoying the stores it was time for a game. Genghiz had brought along his tried and trusted and Orks and I’d packed my Iron Hands (40k) into my luggage. Great game, as we always do, high light would have to be his Mega Armoured Warboss and my Cataphracti Armoured Captain managing to kill each other in a challenge….
If you’re living in the UK or just visiting, make time and go to Warhammer World, it’s well worth it for any self respecting hobbyist, just make sure you plan to stay there a whole day.
Big shout out to all the great Warhammer World staff that made the day so amazing!
