Objective Secured hosted our forth annual Western Australian Team Challenge Warhammer 40,000 event over the August 17-18 weekend.
The WATC has grown year on year and it is an event that I normally TO so Mike can run but as the event has grown Mike elected not to play this year and to be available for rule questions.
This year we actually had fewer teams than last, however this was the first year that we have run the event over two days instead of just one. There were a few other changes as well, we had a change of venue as well. We had been unable to secure the same venue as last year and so we were relegated to a smaller hall in South Perth. This meant that we were going to be limited to only 14 teams and with those 14 teams we would be nice and cosy. Mike and I didn’t think this would be an issue, we thought we would see a drop in the number of teams who were able to participate as we had moved to a two day event.
We were wrong. The Patrons got first dibs at the tickets and the last few remaining tickets sold out quickly! We then found another hall that was bigger but wasn’t yet open to the public. If we could move to the new hall we would be able to accommodate more teams and we would all have more space and all in all it was a better option. The only problem, we had to wait until they officially opened bookings before we could confirm the new venue and allow more teams to attend. It was short notice but in the end we were able to move the event to the newly renovated Kelmscott Hall and open the tickets up for more teams.
Mike and I have discussed the results on the podcast, we did a patron only podcast looking at the format in depth and we have also done two videos on YouTube, the first discussing the match up process and the second as a follow up with what actually happened with that match up. I will follow this up with a post discussing the results and the stats etc but for now, here are the team photos.
