Hobby Slump Break Out – Terrain WIP – Skull Keep

Day 2 of the hobby slump break out – and while I did not get done what I wanted, I did get some done regardless.

First off – here is the second half of that $1700 odd worth of terrain

Pile of Boxes 2

That’s the Plasma Obliterator, The Fortress of Redemption, the Skull Keep, Overlord Bastion and Malefic Gate – all waiting for me to build them!

After a full on day in which I forgot to spray paint my Shrine of the Aquilla, I sat down with the new kit – Skull Keep – for building…

Skull Keep 1

Skull Keep 2

Like all GW terrain these days, this kit is produced in china rather than the UK where the majority of models are produced. This means we get a different grade of plastic for the casting and its not as clean or nice to work with. The big plus for this kit is that it comes on sprue. All the other pieces of terrain (like the wall of martyrs sets) come loose in the box and it can be very hit and miss in the way they are supplied. Not this one – I got to clip them apart myself. The mould lines are very prominent on this kit and while I have cleaned it up quite a bit, I left a few in the out of the way areas as with the dry brush and washes later on, it won’t be an issue.

So I got stuck in to the kit – taking about half an hour to clean, prep and begin assembly. I am two thirds of the way thought building when… of course… I run out of glue! all my spares are used as well!

Skull Keep 3

So now this kit needs to wait till tomorrow and I can finish the build. It wont take much but its frustrating regardless.

As a break up – I am thinking I might paint some quake craters tomorrow once this is assembled – but then again, so long as I am working on something, its probably a win!
