Armageddon Chronicles- Lord Solar Leontus

This is my first article in what will be a series detailing my progress to get through my backlog of Astra Militarum (including the new Lord Solar Leontus model).

Some of you may know me from my time working for Games Workshop, although that seems like an age ago now. I started collecting and playing 40k during 3rd ed and almost instantly became drawn to the background around the 3rd War for Armageddon and the Armageddon codex supplement that was out at the time. My first army was Black Templars, and while I continue to dabble with them to this day, my main passion developed into the Astra Militarum (or should I say Imperial Guard?) and specifically those forces that were present on Armageddon.

I recently got all of my painted and unpainted Steel Legion models out for a family photo which was very inspiring and motivating to finish the army. The new Astra Militarum codex was also great motivation to continue painting. This is the entirety of my Armageddon Steel Legion and doesn’t include my other Astra Militarum force, Blood Angels, Black Templars, Sisters of Battle, Adeptus Mechanicus, or my reaver titan. (Did I mention I took a liking to the Imperial forces on Armageddon?)

I am hoping to share with you my progress as I work my way through my pile of shame. Hopefully this will keep my motivation going and even provide some motivation for others to complete their hobby projects. I also fell out of touch with the game over the last few editions. I last played regular games in 8th edition and have only played one game of 9th edition. It is definitely something I want to get back into doing and, with the rumours of 10th edition around the corner, it seems like the perfect time to get myself into gear and get some games in!

My latest painting project has been Lord Solar Leontus. He seems to be accompanying a lot of Cadians, however, being the Lord of the Segmentum Solar, surely, he would be more at home leading the Armageddon Steel Legion into battle!

Lord Solar Leontus

What a fantastic model? He towers over all infantry thanks to the horse and his large base, and he definitely catches the eye and is a great centrepiece model. I really enjoyed the building and painting process with this one, putting a little more effort in than I normally do to represent his status. I also wanted to paint him a little differently from the studio colour scheme. I took inspiration from the famous painting of Napoleon and I’m really happy with how he came out. If you want to pick up Lord Solar Leontus for your collection, you can get him here.

This is the first in a series as I try to extinguish my backlog of painting projects. I have plenty of infantry and a big new tank to work on next…
