What does it do? It does what a lot of the lists I have seen on the east coast for this event do – form up a deathstar and crack some skulls!
Draigo, the 2 librarians, the sanguinary priest and the Assault terminators all form up and use draigo’s gate psychic power to bounce around the table as needed and murder you. All the while, the 3 dreadknights shunt early in the game to put pressure on while draigo and his buddies ready for their charge. The scouts and strike knights claim objectives. The Dreadknights can help with the objective game thanks to their jump movement and their shunt option if needed but I suspect the list relies on the fact you will be under to much pressure to deal with the deathstar and dreadknights that you wont worry about the little scoring units.
Its one of the smaller deathstar units (especially compared to THIS!) that the ATC has to offer but it still boasts the components that make this sort of unit work – its relatively mobile thanks to gate (though a failed psychic test could cost this lists the game if it happens at the wrong time), its durable thanks to the 2+/3++ saves and feel no pain, it hits hard with a tidy volume of thunder hammers and characters and is well supported to get its job done thanks to a good volume of dice in the psychic phase.
Its a pretty specialised list and wont do well against everyone. The necron lists like THIS or the royal court death stars will beat it through attrition while most of the eldar lists can deal with the death star with volume of fire or distort weapons and them simply out manoeuvre it. Where this list will shine is when it rolls invisibility on the librarians and gets access to a big juicy target – knights in particular seem to be where the team have this placed. Personally, I think that’s to much of a gamble with stomp being what it is.
Regardless, its an interesting force and one that NSW no doubt have a plan for.
