Gaming Clubs at SHO2018 – Perth Miniatures Gaming Group

There is so much happening at Southern Hemisphere Open this year, as with last year we have invited the local gaming clubs to be a part of the event. We want to really showcase what WA has on offer and to connect gamers with local clubs and like minded players. Today I chat with Mike from Perth Miniatures Gamers Group (PMGG for short) who will be attending SHO for the very first time.

PMGGThanks for chatting with you Mike, how long have you been associated with the club and in what ways?

I have been a member of the club from very shortly after it was formed (I was overseas when the club was formed) I have been a member, committee member, vice President and for the past 2 years President.

Tell me a little bit about your club history?

We were formed in March 2005 from an enthusiastic group of well-experienced gamers who wanted to see this wonderful hobby supported in Western Australia. We are based at the Rhein Donau Club in Myaree and meet on Wednesday nights. One of the benefits of having the club at the Rhein Donau Club is that there is a bar and they also serve meals. Each time M and I have attended PMGG there have been players having a meal together before they get into the actual gaming side of their night. I haven’t eaten there but the gamers I spoke to sang the praises of the kitchen there. Players seem to get to the club at about 6.30-7.00pm-ish.  The address of the club is 110 North Lake Road, Myaree, there is parking available on site and entry is down the back of the car park through what sort of looks a bit like

a building area.

What games are supported at your club?

Members game in most tabletop war gaming genres including but not restricted to Ancients, Renaissance, Napoleonics, Colonial, ECW, ACW, WW2, Science Fiction and Fantasy.

What are the membership and entry fees for the club?

First couple of visits no fee, after that $2 per night for non members. With membership on application and approval by PMGG committee and RhineDonau committee.  The annual membership fees combined (PMGG fees and RD fees) are about $70 annually.

What are the benefits of attending the club?

Friendly, knowledgeable and experienced gamers to hang out with, good food, regular club events and competitions, the past twelve months we have run several weekend BIG games and competitions in Ancients and Napoleonic wargaming.

When and where does the club meet?

The club meets Wednesday evenings from 6.30 to 10.30 at the Rhine Donau Club in Myaree

Who is welcome at the club?

Anyone, it is a licenced establishment so people aged under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

PMGG didn’t attend SHO last year did you?

No, this is our first year attending Southern Hemisphere Open but members are excited to come along this year!
