Its been a couple of days between posts and I am feeling guilty for not keeping up with posting every day. I will have at least 1 more post tonight though so I am at leats trying to make amends!
For now though – here is the Primarch of the 17th Legion
I have had this model for a little while now and after the last few days of Word Bearers inspiration I figured I should assemble him. Parts wise he is quite straight forward. His main body and one leg is all a single piece and then the second leg, both arms, both shoulder pads, head and backpack are essentially just a large space marine. His maul has a couple of extra spikes that need to go on by hand and his pistol and cape are also spate pieces. His base is very straight forward as well – just 3 main pieces plus a couple of skulls with candles on them.
The 40mm piece that covers his gaming base is slightly slanted so it only really fits one way despite the simple appearance. The rear piece locks it in nicely without the need for a pin or magnets.
The model had very few mould lines and needed very little clean up. The flash was worst around the spikes on the maul and on the back pack between the vents. His head also had a slight line that needed cleaning as did both hands. Assembly wise, Lorgar only really has 2 parts which require some forward thinking. The pistol which goes on his hip is best put on before the arms and cape are on as its the easiest way to get a good join. The cape is perhaps the most fiddley part of the build. The cape sits over the haft of his maul which sits in under his back pack. I needed to trim the cape ever so slightly to get a good fit but nothing that I would consider an issue for most people.
I left his head off so I could paint it separately and have left him separate from his base as well so that I can undercoat him in red while the base can be done black.
I just need the weather to clear up so I can hit him with the spray paint! Is it wrong to paint the Primarch before the marines?
