Horus Heresy Word Bearers – Chaplain and Librarian

Tonight I decided I would continue with my own hobby – I wanted to build more Word Bearers after the success of Mhara Gal yesterday. While I did go and get instructions for the Overlord Bastion, it can wait another day.

This week must be my week for mispacks – the Gal Vorbak are just that!

Gal Vorbak

I got 2 sets of arms for the one on the far left and no arms for the one on the far right! ARGH!

Now I am in a quandary – should I suck it up and do the bastion? In a word – no.

I remembered I had this model which came in the same order as the Gal Vorbak and Mhara Gal

LTD Centurion

Incidentally – I discovered that this model came with its own rules!

LTD Cent rules

While probably not a revelation for most of you it came as a surprise to me – I was going to throw the pack out until I realised it was folded over!

Now the Word Bearers need a chaplain in 30k regardless of their force. I am actually quite fond of the plastic chaplain GW produces but not so fond that its in a $120AUS box set with a command squad and razorback – neither of which I can use in 30k. I do have a lot of 30k parts though… a kit bash was in order!

I grabbed a skull helm from the night lords upgrade pack, a power maul and bolt pistol from the Mk4 weapon set with arms to match, a studded shoulder pad and set to work. The centurion was (much like Mhara Gal yesterday) almost pristine of mould lines and very little was required to get his parts sorted. I did discover the skull helm needs some liquid greenstuff to tidy up the top but for the work that was involved – it looks good right now for me!

Chaplain

I wanted to mimic the Lorgar model in terms of the chaplain relaxed and ready rather than in a holy zealous charge. I like the idea of him slightly introspective! Game wise he is a Chaplain with Artificer Armour, power maul, melta bombs and a refractor field – cheap and cheerful. I am actually really taken with this model!

I also took the opportunity to make up a librarian for the Word Bearers. As they are the only ones to access malefic psychic powers in 30k and with my other HQ’s and Lorgar doing so – I wanted to add some more psychic might to the mix. I had the plastic librarian from GW on hand and with a back pack swap, a studded shoulder pad and a new set of legs (mk4 which were shaved down at the waist to make them fit) I had myself a new HQ for the legion!

Librarian

He is nothing especially fancy but I do like the pose and the legs I found in my bitz box worked perfectly with his tabard and upper body pose. Between these 2 and Zardu Layak (who is in transit as I write this) I have my 3 HQ sorted. I will at some stage pick up Erebus and Kor Phaeron but they have no place in the legion force at this stage.

With the Gal Vorbak now waiting on a reply from forge world to sort out the parts – I think its time I built the sire of the 17th…
