2020 sees us host the 6th Annual Objective Secured Perth GT – 40k Masters event, with this years event being the 3rd edition of the game the event has seen! Masters has always been about competition – the best of the best duking it out across 2 days to crown a champion. 2020 is no different in that regard but at the same time, 9th edition 40k has brought many changes so Masters has had to evolve – lets highlight some of those changes.
7 Games for this years Perth GT
Yes you read that right – no less than 7 games across the 2 days of play! Day one features 4 games and will see you have 2 hours and 45 minutes per round while day 2 gives you 3 hours per round with 3 rounds to play. Both days start early and the timing is tight – make sure you are on time!
Pairings – Bracketed and not swiss
Bracketed pairings is a process were players are broken up based on their win loss record and paired highest to lowest in the same bracket (at least in general – its a little more complex than that!) This means that when we hit round 7, we should have a scenario where we only have 2 undefeated players left – and they will therefore be in the same bracket. To win the event – you have to win all 7 games! Its unlikely to get any other outcome without some truly odd results during the events middle rounds.
List submission
Lists for the Perth GT are due the Monday prior – 11th January 2021 at 11.59pm. There is a penalty for late lists – 3 battle points per day per game. If you submit 2 days late that’s a 6 point penalty per game! On top of this, we are cracking down on the format for lists – plain text using the format in the pack (page 14) or from the new 40k app only. Anything else will be rejected and if you have to submit again after the due date then late penalties will be applied. Get the format right!
Missions
We are playing 7 of the missions located in the Grand Tournament 2020 book. Familiarise yourself with them! Have a plan on what secondaries you may select to minimise the wasted time and maximise your chances of finishing the game in the allotted time. Remember that after the 15 minute warning you may not start any new battle rounds nor score any more regardless of if you manage to finish the round you are playing early.
Faction specific secondaries may be used at Masters 2020 with one caveat – where an army has access to multiple faction specific secondaries, you may only select one per game – no double dipping from Adeptus Astartes and Blood Angels for example! You also have to abide by the limits of categories when selecting and there is a significant penalty for those that make this error and double up in 1 category.
Clocks, Player Penalties & Conduct
You need to familiarise yourself with this section of the pack. We are not taking transgressions lightly – players who consistently conduct themselves outside of the community expectations will be held accountable for their actions. Work together with your opponent to play in a sporting manner, don’t make up and ‘agree’ on results based on turns you didn’t play and don’t cheat!
Terrain
We have spent a large amount of time and money on terrain in 9th edition and while we are not quite consistent across every table, players who have played WATC 2020 or First Blood part 2 should have some idea about terrain in terms of volume and type. It wont be every table but we will have the top 5 tables identical to ensure the finals are as fair and even as possible.
Painting
Every model has to be painted in at least base colours and ideally – battle ready. No bare plastic of any kind, neat plain or textured bases and basic colours. Simple.
Anything else?
Plenty really – the above points are just some key points! Read the pack – and then read it again! Ask questions early and make sure you have cleared any weird and wonderful conversions. The weekend is going to be fantastic and we look forward to seeing you all soon! You can download the full players pack HERE and you can ask questions in the event HERE or use the contact us tab.
