Unless you have been living under a rock, you will have seen that the Ynnari faction took a little bit of a hit with the release of the updated Index in the May issue of White Dwarf.
The fact is, the Ynnari soulburst is a much changed beast from the glory days of 7th and even recent memory 8th edition 40k. Its so much changed that plenty of people have simply abandoned and written off the faction as unplayable and bad.
Me? I’m not convinced.
One of our local clubs – KRAGS – is hosting a 1 day event in a couple of weeks and it seems like the perfect chance to try out some of the new ideas i have for the Ynnari. I do have to paint up at least a couple of the Triumvirate but that’s not big deal.
My goal will be to put together a pure Ynnari Army for it – no using the craftworld/masque/kabal/etc detachments – despite there being some very cool options and combos available when you do. I want to go all in for Ynnari and see what we can get them to do.
Right now – its looking like a Craftworld Supreme command because I just have to try out the Ynnari Wraithknight – on paper I see promise and backed up by a Farseer, Spirit Seer and Yvraine thats the first detachment sorted.
The second detachment isnt so simple. I really want to run Incubi with the Visarch because – rule of cool – but honestly, I think its going to be Ynnariquinns – or Harlequins of the Ynnari persuasion. Starweavers, sky weavers and troupes galore. The characters and break up of units is up for debate but right now its a battalion for the Command Points – you need a few for Eldar and Ynnari are no exception.
Why no Yncarne? First – its expensive and second – its a pain to paint! It will make an appearance at some point but for now, its going to have to take the bench.
Once I have a list – I’ll post it for you all to check out.
